The two-year diploma programme is set up to prepare individuals to help doctors in the operating room while working under anaesthetists' and surgeons' supervision. Students who earn the diploma are ready to handle the operating theatre as a whole. The duties of an OT Technician include attending to the specifics of the surgical procedure and supporting the surgeon as needed. Other responsibilities include setting up the dressing table, instrument and anaesthesia table, and instrument and anaesthesia table in the operating room, sterilising all surgical instruments, drapes, and linen, and facilitating the medicines and anaesthetic gases needed for surgery. Without the OT technician, neither a surgeon can operate nor can a hospital or healthcare facility function effectively. The OT technician is a crucial member of the operating room team who controls and organises the whole operating room.
